Stephanie Aaron is a Peoria native who for the last several years has been living in Chicago and honing her jazz chops, holding steady gigs at clubs and hotels such as Jilly's on Rush Street, the Drake Hotel, Stetson's Chophouse, and Andy's Jazz Club. A performer for most of her life, Stephanie has an acting degree from Bradley University and has participated in dozens of musicals and plays on Central Illinois stages. During a long stint in the radio industry as an on-air personality and host, Stephanie teamed up with Larry Harms on piano and began singing jazz. The duo grew into a trio which held a regular Friday night spot at Martini's on Water Street for years - and then reshaped itself into That Marvelous Quartet, with the addition of Tom Marko on drums and Trefan Owen on guitar. Stephanie and Larry also enjoyed playing with various other personnel throughout this time period, including Kevin Hart, Manny Lopez, Joe Metzka, Billy Cook, Mike Nellas, and many other great area musicians. Stephanie returns often to downstate Illinois to perform with Larry - some of their favorite gigs are Live at the Five Spot at the Contemporary Art Center, the Rhythm Kitchen in Peoria, and Swinger's Grill in Bloomington - along with special appearances for concerts, fundraisers, and private parties. She is very pleased to be playing for the Jazz Society with Larry Harms, Cory Flanigan on drums, and Tim Brickner on bass.
Stephanie's latest project is a CD entitled “The Song of the Lark” which was recorded with the cream of Chicago musicians, including Grammy-nominated bassist Clark Sommers and Dan Nicholson on saxophone. The CD is mainly a collection of standards, although there are a couple of surprises mixed in as well. Beautifully produced and boasting some amazing arrangements, “The Song of the Lark” is a sweet little gem.
