Derel Monteith formed his own piano trio in 2015, though he has been playing jazz in Central Illinois since 2007. Since its formation, the Derel Monteith Trio has become a regional favorite through regular performances at Rhythm Kitchen Music Cafe in Peoria and Jazz UpFront in Bloomington, as well as concerts at venues such as Knox College and CEFCU Center Stage. Derel leads the group through high-energy performances of an eclectic range of music, drawing mostly from his own compositions and the trio's arrangements of classic rock songs. Derel graduated from the prestigious jazz program at the University of Miami and studied thereafter with the Grammy-winning composer Maria Schneider; that background and over 25 years of professional jazz piano experience combine to make him a highly creative and engaging artist that should not be missed. Joining Derel in the trio are Andy Crawford on bass and Jason Brannon on drums, both of whom help shape the overall sound and style of the group with their own significant musical voices.
The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms - sax. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area.
