Be prepared for an energy-packed evening! ICC Vocal Jazz is Illinois Central College’s premiere vocal ensemble. Singers are selected through auditions each year or whenever space becomes available. The group is often accompanied by a jazz combo, with musicians who play keyboard, bass, and drums. The group performs a variety of vocal jazz, pop, and a cappella selections. ICC Vocal Jazz is a service organization. Many students to the group earn an ICC tuition waiver, and in turn, perform throughout the year for college and community events. The group is directed by Julie Clemens.
The PCHS Jazz Ensemble is one of the top performing ensembles for student musicians. This group of dedicated students starts practices in November and travels throughout central Illinois performing at clinics and competitions. This year the group traveled to Illinois Wesleyan, Bradley, Illinois State and the Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival at UMSL. These students learn about jazz and are ambassadors to the younger generations in Pekin. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Karli McCann.
The Bradley Jazz Ensemble, under the leadership of Dr. Todd Kelly, is the flagship ensemble of the Bradley Jazz program. In past years, they have performed at the Illinois Collegiate Jazz Festival, the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, and the Western Illinois University Jazz Festival, as well as European tours in 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2012. In the summer of 2016, they traveled to New Orleans to perform and do humanitarian work.
They have brought many world renowned jazz clinicians and soloists to the Bradley campus. Each spring, the Bradley Jazz Festival is held on campus. This year, their guest artist was Tom "Bones" Malone. They also perform a yearly tribute concert � past tributes have included Duke Ellington, CCount Basie, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, “A Tribute to the Golden Age of Swing,” “Come Fly With Me: A Tribute to Frank Sinatra,” and “Unforgettable: Music from the Great American Songbook.” The spring of 2015 marked the release of their second CD, entitled “The Heart of the Matter.”
