Saxophonist Doug Stone currently lives in Baton Rouge, LA, and teaches at Louisiana State University. Bassist Alex Austin currently lives in Chicago, IL, and performs most notably with guitar great Fareed Haque. Stone and Austin both grew up in Peoria, IL, both graduated from Richwoods High School, and both received bachelor's degrees in jazz studies from Northern Illinois University. Both Stone and Austin had profound early musical experiences at Central Illinois Jazz Society in the middle 1990's. This "dynamic duo" played together consistently from 1999-2003, but since that time, their careers and lives have taken different paths. Stone and Austin will perform in a small group format together for the first time in 15 years. They will be joined by friends and fellow Northern Illinois University alumni Larry Brown on guitar and vocals, and Marcus Evans on drums. The evening promises to be filled with swinging interpretations of jazz standards and much more.
The Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms - sax
. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will present a mixture of jazz styles. For more information visit www.cijs.org or call 243-1582. Food and beverages are available for purchase at this live jazz program.
