| | John's music experience reaches back to his days playing lead trumpet for the jazz, concert, and pep bands and as a member of the "Boptet" jazz combo at Wabash College in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At Wabash, John studied with Pharez Whitted (Trumpet - now Chicago), Dr. John Alston (Piano - now Swarthmore University), and Dr. Mike Woods (Bass - now Hamilton College). John's principle trumpet influences are Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan. John is a managing attorney in Caterpillar's law department, where he has worked in both Peoria and in Europe since first coming to Peoria in 1997. John plays regularly with the Central Illinois Jazz Train and the Caterpillar Employees Big Band. John can also be heard occasionally at small combo gigs and is a founding member of the emergent impromptu soul band known to some as "The Soul Gizzards." |
